When life is like a romcom ... without a hero!
Hi folks,
I’m writing this newsletter propped up in bed on a weekend away with family on Philip Island. Sounds idyllic, apart from the fact that I’m currently having to enter and exit our bedroom via the window (I kid you not!) onto the balcony deck outside, which is thoroughly confusing our dog, and I’m wondering how long it’ll be before a neighbour reports the burglar next door, and all because I shut the bedroom door a little too firmly last night not realising the latch was buggered.
Also not terribly convenient when you need to pee in the night. Also not terribly convenient when you want a morning mug of tea in bed. Also not terribly convenient when you need to pack up and leave … but not terrible, especially when it provides more fodder for your romcom. But where’s my hero ? He’s left me to deal with it while he’s racing his MX5 on the Grand Prix circuit up the road. Such is life. Hmmm.
Anyhow.
Hello 1st of December. How is it that December always seems to take me by surprise? Am I organised and prepared for Christmas? Of course, not. Will I be whirling like a dervish in a frenzy of shopping and cooking and teaching and writing and socialising and malfunctioning this month? Of course, yes. For me, that seems to be pretty much de rigueur this time of year.
Unlike so many of my friends, who’ve already got Christmas trees and decorations garlanding their homes, I am unable to start thinking about Christmas until birthdays have been and gone. Then I can launch into full blown panic along with the rest of you!
My Writing News
Now that 12 Tropes of Christmas has launched (Did you grab it yet? Have you enjoyed the stories?), I’m back to focusing on my next manuscript. I’ve been indecisive (No, really Anna? What a surprise!) and dithering. At the moment, I’m working on my Tilly (Alice’s twin sister) story. Sort of set in France. But also set in the peripatetic world of Formula One and the Grand Prix. It’ll definitely be racier than Alice!
As I’m sure you’ve all got heaps to be doing, I’ll keep this brief and just leave you with some Reading offers and Suggestions should you find a small moment of peace in which to read. Here’s hoping!
